@gomichandesu what he clearly WANTED to do by desiring to cross the river time after time. The issue here is that you are taking a metaphorical and psychological experience, and trying to read into it literally, while adding interpretations not evident from the original text. There is no indicator for suffering, nor a sign that this was anything beyond a metaphorical representation of the character being at death's doorstep. I also might argue that the line "I feel like the storm up until now were just lies" is nodding at how he was only artificially alive to begin with This I can agree with. That is not to say that I agree that this is for the best, for all that we know the character may have been able to get out of coma - they just stopped his life support. Considering this ambivalence, and the emphasis in the text, I don't think there's a reason to try and artificially attach additional meaning just to fit a narrative. What's unambiguous is that it is a story about a patient on life support that "goes to the other side" after his life support is stopped. Nothing less and nothing more - any extra interpretations rely on wild guesses. I am fairly certain that this ambiguity is intentional, the author is notorious for this, as it is often used to create an illusion for depth in their works. Last edited 11 days ago by criver. |

@criver Yes, the life support kept him from dying, what he clearly WANTED to do by desiring to cross the river time after time. I would call that suffering. Being unable to move on no matter how much you clearly want to. That was a sign of constant suffering. Trying and failing to cross the river (die) over and over again was symbolic of his suffering while being forced to stay alive. I also might argue that the line "I feel like the storm up until now were just lies" is nodding at how he was only artificially alive to begin with, and he's clearly happy that the storm cleared up, IE, happy the plug was pulled. |

@gomichandesu It was not suffering that kept him from dying, it was life support, so there's no reason to believe this symbolized suffering. His inability to cross the river, caused by the storm, was clearly symbolizing his inability to die. The river is either a reference to the Sanzu river or Styx. Last edited 11 days ago by criver. |

@criver Uh, I believe the storm was symbolic for their suffering. They were trying to cross over, move on to the next life so to speak, but the storm kept them from going forward. When they pulled the plug, the storm stopped, and MC was able to die peacefully. |

@shrot1234 The problem is that you can't know that. Said person may have come out of comma after some time. There was also no sign that they were in "constant suffering". |

@criver Anything is better than constant suffering that you can't escape from, wether mental or physical. Here death is his release from physical suffering, thus letting him free from suffering. In my opinion that is a better place than the situation he was in previously. |

@shrot1234 At least he is in a better place now How is being dead equivalent to being in a better place? |

What is with this artist and their raging hard on for tragedies? They are just making tragedies for the sake of them being tragic. Good grief, now it feels just patronizing at this point. Last edited 21 days ago by eviljackspicer. |
