After Leon and co. cleaned-up the huge mess of the other reincarnator in Alzer Commonwealth, they went back to the Kingdom to settle down the heat. The royal couple (Roland and Mylene) assessed the overall situation of the kingdom and it's neighbors. Mylene suggested to hand over her daughter to Leon to chain him down more to the Kingdom, as well as to hopefully make Luxion as a part of the country's national assets. Mylene sets up a meeting with Princess Erika and Marquis Leon, while Marie tags along in the meet-up for some reason (aka assessing the princess' personality).

Both Mylene and Roland actually wanted Leon and Angie to ascend the throne after the imminent internal struggle and upheavel in the kingdom ends. The kingdom was actually near at the point of internal destruction due to the dissatisfaction of the nobles - where some were actually planning to wage a civil war with the help of a third party. The royal couple decided to carry all the sins after the civil war ends. Leon's engagement with Princess Erika was Mylene's plan (not Roland due to him doting on Erika too much, Roland's OK on marrying other of her daughters to Leon) to make Leon's enthronement smoother. The reason why Mylene and Roland were eager to make Leon and co. take over the throne because they will become the powerful symbol of change for the kingdom as a whole, as well as they're competent enough to overcome the future struggles. As for how the royal couple comprehended and planned their tricky situation: Mylene viewed the problem pessimistically while the opposite for Roland. Mylene actually lost all hope after Leon rejected the arranged marriage with the Princess at the same time, King Roland falling ill from poisoning due to the schemes of the trash nobles. Roland's optimistic assessment and expecation of Leon's action1-ups Mylene in the end. Spoiler

Honestly, the King doesn't deserve her.

You forgot to mention that he tried to sweet talk Olivia into going to a private room with him with the intent of making her his newest concubine. Apparently it's considered ok officially as long as it's with the intent to create more heirs to the throne although it's a worn out defense for the queen's wrath.

Not surprising considering she's a competent Queen as opposed to the idiots King and Julian. Granted it's a little cold and politically minded but having top spot means making the tough decisions and placing good of country over personal interests (although doing so should be in moderation.) After all, Leon has shown can take on another country's forces with little support and win, twice. Is owner of a powerful OOPart that nobody else can use or control. Isn't seeking power and money to boost his ego. Yet has little tying him down to the country or washing his hands of everything and leaving. Barely gets along with Julian, King and many nobles seem determined to raise issues with him, and while Livia and Angie have ties to the kingdom they're liable to run away with him willingly. As a ruler she can't turn a blind eye towards Leon's and Luxon's power without trying to encourage him to stay and side with the kingdom as it would be disastrous if he joined a hostile party or country. For example, if that idiot Marquis had managed to get Leon's loyalty and aid then a successful coup de'tat would be a matter of when rather than if. Although thinking he'd go for a princess was rather blind though. If he cared about rank he wouldn't be trying so hard to get demoted and would've pursued Angie and Olivia rather than think they'd be happier with someone else. Especially if her daughter didn't inherit her personality but is either an idiot like her brother, Julian, or a spoiled rotten narcissist like the girls rank Baron to Earl. Guess will just have to see what happens and how it goes, but Leon likely to politely refuse partly because considers Angie (who's rank is couple levels lower than a princess,) too good for him, partly fear of angering Vince, partly to avoid political and social responsibilities included, and mostly because just wants to indulge and enjoy a quiet life with little responsibilities.
