@saladofstones I like everything about this manga except Nagatoro constantly beating Senpai. I don't mind civil discussion. I didn't start getting "combative" until people started insulting me, calling me "thick" and "autist" and the like. I hope you understand how that might have soured my mood in general, "friend". |

@cor3zone If you don't want to be called out, maybe not posting comments for a manga you dislike ad nauseam would be the way forward, yeah? You're way too combative for this and its clear you aren't changing your mind so it might be time to put a rest to it, friend. |

Man oh man, what a goodly group Paisen has got together! "Titties Megaton" is my new favorite death-line. |

@Naizuri Good for you, but I really don't give a shit. You have your opinion, I have mine. I'm sick of people calling me out for having a different opinion. No offence. |

@cor3zone It's not really about if I would be ok or not, but rather, if people would like it, and a guy playfully hitting a girl wouldn't be neither cute or hot, he would be seen as being very annoying or just creepy, not exactly what you want in a seductive male character in a shoujo manga. In this case she's being annoying in a cute way, it's not even "teasing", but if the genders were swapped it wouldn't work at all. Anyways, I'm fine in both cases, she isn't even hitting him hard enough to hurt him, she's just messing with him, even if the genders were reversed it wouldn't make much of a difference, it's not like the typical tsundere who hits the guy with enough force to kill him because he accidentally saw her panties. |

@KazumaLee94 I see your point, Pres is definitely passionate about her art regardless of how it's interpreted. I like to think that Senpai is in-universe a good artist as well, considering Pres left the club to him and wants him to fight for it. Regarding the possible "drama" however, I'm doubtful much would come from the Nekotoro thing beyond her being popular. If anything it would just end up drawing a bigger crowd to display Senpai's works. This arc seems to be drawing to a close and I would hope it would result in more progress than problems for our main characters. |

@nightmoves17 Yeah the contest that the challenge between Senpai and President is based on is a popularity contest. However there are some things to consider; 1. President never had to resort to "marketing herself" in order to win last year's contest. Yeah the art piece was a glorified pinup of President, but the art piece was all she used. She didn't resort to advertisement strategies or try to pull a sort of campaign to get the other students vote for the art club. President just made the painting, displayed it for everyone to see, and let her art speak for itself. 2. Despite the fact that her art pieces can be considered smut, President clearly believes in her art. She talks about how you need inspiration and love for the art you create. She doesn't see her artwork as presenting herself for everyone to ogle she sees her artwork as legitimate. And considering how her work got her notoriety in the art community as well as the school, she has a good reason to think that. This campaign might make President call out Senpai for not letting his artwork speak for itself like she's doing. Or the more interesting route, it might make Senpai upset with Nagatoro and the friends. Senpai might interpret this as the girls thinking that his art isn't good enough to win on its own and this undermining of his abilities, plus the possibility of Senpai being jealous of the new attention Nagatoro might be getting from people (other guys), might be the straw that breaks the camel's back, and he might lash out at them. Or he could just be annoyed at the Nekotoro strategy and the entire thing will be glanced over as a one off gag. Point is, there is a reasonable way this might result in some drama via accusations of outside interference from the President or Senpai getting upset at how this marketing strategy undermines his artistic ability and/or is turning Nagatoro in this pseudo-idol for the school to gawk at. |

@KazumaLee94 "Will Senpai, or the President, consider this as illegitimate? As in this doesn't prove that Senpai is a good artist it only shows that Nagatoro is more popular than the President and therefore Senpai didn't really win." To be fair, President placed high the previous year not specifically because her work was good but because of how obviously lewd it was perceived. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure her art is pretty excellent in-universe, but it clearly was popular because of her well endowed nudity. And considering the reactions from the girls when they saw her new piece it's safe to assume that a similar "theme" is at play. They say that all is fair in love and war so I don't see any problem in using Naga(Neko)toro's popularity to curve the attention in their favor. Not to mention it's basically a glorified popularity contest to begin with. |

I kind of wonder how this "marketing strategy" will be addressed. Will this be seen as a one off gag and the arc continues on? Will Senpai get jealous that Nagatoro is receiving all this attention? Will Senpai, or the President, consider this as illegitimate? As in this doesn't prove that Senpai is a good artist it only shows that Nagatoro is more popular than the President and therefore Senpai didn't really win. |

@Tarage Urging someone to commit suicide, no matter how flippant or viewer-friendly it may be, is not acceptable on MD. Please take one day off from commenting and consider how to voice your disagreement with other posters without wishing them dead. Thanks, Zeph |

@SunsetSeeker I'll @ you again, because I think you're mistaken on my stance and about my reading habits. For that, I apologize if I was unclear on things and if I misunderstood you too. > What I used was called a simile. If anything, YOU created a straw man, when you brought up the original Nagatoro manga to prove something about the current Nagatoro manga. The original manga thing wasn't relevant to the discussion between just the two of us. I brought up that point to discuss with another commenter about paisen being an M. It was just part of that commenter's description. I was separating myself from the stance, "I don't think paisen is an M". I apologize if mentioning that made my point unclear. These are the words I used: "Stated consent is what the other commenter was looking for. He doesn't accept that the original Nagatoro is canon." He thought paisen hasn't expressed consent. I was explaining to you what his expectations were. Author's intent didn't matter to him. I was stating what was going on. I feel that you're trying to tell me that paisen is an M, which I said that I think so too. So, I said, "We're not on the same page here". The figurative strawman I suspected here was a version of myself who you thought didn't agree that paisen was an M. But if you're arguing specifically about consent in general, then I think you're wrong. You don't just read a person's expressions and try to read between the lines. Consent has to be explicit. Your simile doesn't really apply, because in real life, for the less common and less socially acceptable kinks in particular, explicit consent is important. In case you didn't catch it, it felt like I was also whacking at a wall. > Also, I think it should be noted that the "certain aspect of the manga" that you and/or the other guy doesn't like is literally what the manga is based around. I actually like it. Why do you think I read the original manga in the first place? :P The other guy seems to have a problem with unprovoked violence and lack of consent rather than a specific kink tho. > I noticed that you said you continue to read manga you don't like, solely because updates are slow Sorry, I was just trying to be funny. I think plenty of us here has hundreds of bookmarks because the wait times are long. But really, I only do that for a few chapters and probably not for 43 chapters. I was trying to bring up something that I hope could be relatable to any manga reader; I mean, I'm sure plenty of people sat through a dumpster fire of a series just to see the end of it. Luck would have it that I actually like all the manga I still keep reading, more so than most other readers. Thanks for the tip, but I'm more likely to not read something from random. My search tags are already very limited. @Tarage You can dislike anyone you want, but I wouldn't like anyone to insult someone for such a mundane and absurd reason. "Be responsible for what you say, people" - I'm not just silly-looking avatar and a name on your screen, @Tarage. You could have just shut up too after that one comment where I didn't even @ you and did some introspection but you doubled down, dude. Last edited 3 mo ago by jonsmth. |
