Seems like the former should be more likely than the latter, when have they ever had a positive encounter, let alone a romantic one?

Then again, the author could be setting up some love triangle drama (I hope not) as she's shown affection for thorfinn as well.

It's simple, she either feels responsible for him being here and him dying would on her conscience OR she's attracted to him (which wouldn't be that far-fetched).
